We will be taking the new knee on the true test of durability, the hills of San Francisco! I think when you are going through difficult times, it helps to focus on a prize. I can't wait to be in our favorite place, eating too much (with teeth again!), laughing, taking photos, and walking. Or sitting. Either way, I am good. Wasn't I saying something similar the last time we went to San Francisco? See, life is just a series of repeats. I like the good repeats!
I always think about what happened that last time we were in San Francisco, a few months before surgery. We were at the park taking photos of the Golden Gate Bridge when Dustin walked off on a little path to the beach area for a different perspective in his photos. I stayed up at the park and was happily taking photos when an older woman started yelling for help. Despite all the tourists taking photos, nobody heard her. She asked me if I could help her carry her husband to the car, he could not walk and was clearly ill. Of course I said yes and the woman and I each grabbed an arm and walked him back to the car. The couple was much taller than me and I thought at the time how odd it was that the short girl was helping the woman carry her husband. There was no way she could have carried him alone. I offered to call someone for her or help in any way I could and she said she was just going to drive him to the hospital. I have wondered and wondered what ever happened. A few months later, I was the one carrying her husband. Now that I tell this story, I can't decide if I fear what will happen at the bridge this year! I hope there's an elf handing out pots of gold, amazing wrinkle cream, calorie-free chocolate, and the secret to good health.
