Karen's daughter is turning twenty this week. I have no idea how this happened and there are still things I feel like she needs to know before she goes out in the real world as not a child. She totally loves it
so much when Mommy and Auntie Linda give her unsolicited advice, so this week my list will be 20 Things I Want Emily To Know. When she is 45 she will like this list.
Part one:
1. Always listen to your intuition even if that little voice is telling you the opposite of what your friends are. It could be the difference in life or death, or in a worst case scenario- a horrible hair cut.
2. It is so much easier to love your body instead of hating it or hating parts of it. When you start by loving your body, it is easier to make healthier choices. You only have one body, so make the best of it. Well, unless you are Uncle Dustin, in which case your body parts will be replaced yearly.
3. Many men interpret the passing out of information as criticism. You could be saying something as simple as "parking, next right" or "the project is due friday" and suddenly the man in the conversation will be all, " I KNOW, do you think I am an idiot?!" Resist the urge to say, "no, I think you are an over reactor!" and don't take it personally. Also know that you do not want that guy's mother as your mother-in-law, boss, or landlord.
4. Never put a hot glass pan full of food into the refrigerator. It's super hard to remember this life lesson because we keep being told to use glass dishes more, but then who has time to let the pan that will shatter into a million sharp bits cool before refrigerating?
