In our Nana's later years, she had a variety of caregivers. Each one did things differently. On one visit, we opened a kitchen cupboard (in hot Palm Springs) to find a melty, half-used stick of butter still in its wrapper. We were horrified. Did Nana get confused and put it there? Was the caregiver overwhelmed and accidentally put the butter in the cupboard instead of the refrigerator? We mentioned the butter in the cupboard to the caregiver who immediately got defensive and told us that is where she keeps the butter. We were freaked out. Butter goes in the refrigerator when you are done using it on your bagel.
