Thing 33: The Hotel New Hampshire is one of my all-time favorite books. I read it the first time when I was 12 or 13, shortly after I read The Thorn Birds. Neither our mother nor Nana ever told us not to read something. They encouraged reading and discussions about books. Every month Nana would send me the not really age appropriate book she'd just finished reading and we'd have a great time discussing the books. Oh how I loved reading each Maeve Binchy novel that smelled like Nana's perfume! She always included a bookmark with each book she sent. The funny thing is when one of my teenage nieces wanted to read 50 Shades Of Grey like all her friends were, I was horrified and vocal about it. But then, I got to thinking that nobody stopped me from reading Judy Blume books (remember Forever?). Nana probably would've sent us 50 Shades then baked cookies for our book club of three. None of the books I read ever made me want to be a prostitute or have an affair with a priest. They did make me love reading, discussions, and gave me destinations to dream about. They made me love storytelling. #45andme #iamartblog from Instagram http://ift.tt/1pG4FUx
