This week Seth at The Altered Page is hosting a bloggity hop Treasure Hunt to uncover hidden art gems. I like to uncover hidden stories and truths so I will reveal one of mine. Also, I think we are supposed to post our treasure posts on wednesday and today is tuesday. I like to be early in case food is being served.
My unearthed story is that I often create more than one journal page. Just like I can listen to the same song over and over and over, I can express the same emotion on a page until I am just done feeling it. Two of the pieces from Journal Revolution had beginnings that looked much different. I posted the original versions on my flicker page in 2006 then removed them when we started working on our book. I posted the second versions on our blog as they were happening. Both pages started off as simple pages with one graphic element and typed text (the versions on the left of each image). They evolved into more.
The page about doing the laundry evolved into a dimensional piece with the words written on a sock. As you may notice, the f-bombs are missing from the second version of each piece. I do not have a problem with that word and I am fine with it being in my own journal pages. Since the final two pages were being published, I omitted the word. Even when I am designing art for commercial clients, I often do one version first with the words in my own voice then recreate the piece with the client's voice for a happy union.
Six years later, these are still two of my favorite journal pages.
