It's a crazy time of year for families with kids applying to college. All this waiting to find out of your beloved child has been accepted has caused a surge in peanut butter cup sales in our area (so I have been told). Karen's daughter is the oldest of my nieces and nephews and I am not the least bit shy about saying how proud I am of her. She has been accepted to really good colleges on the east, the west, and in the middle. I think the one in the middle is in the middle. I better look at a map to be sure. Anyway, she has options! Some of those options come with scholarships. I think that is the best thing you can wish for the kids you love- lots of options! It's especially good after they have worked hard so they would have options you told them they'd have if they did all the work you told them to do. Imagine how much it would suck if they did what you told them to do then had no options. They'd never believe you again.
We are still waiting on a few more schools to send out notices but in the mean time, we are particularly happy about one acceptance because it has sentimental value. And it is local. Emily was accepted to UCLA today! WOOHOO! UCLA is where Karen went and where our older brother, Lee, went. It's pretty much the reason we all ended up in LA. I was going to FIDM while Karen was going to UCLA and we have such good memories associated with life at UCLA.
Karen also went to USC Law School so if Emily gets accepted at USC we will be happy, too. The decision is up to her. We won't try to sway her either way. No way. We'd never do that. There are some places in other parts of this country I would like to visit but, no, I won't do any swaying. No ma'am.
Now we must spend the next few months telling Emily all about Natalee Holloway and how she may be going to college but she's never going anywhere on Spring Break without her mom and aunt. Hello world of new fears for us!
