The last time we were in Europe together we avoided anything with tomatoes or figs in it because we both hated those things. Then miraculously last year we both found out that I love figs and Karen loves caprese salad. Europe would be totally different for us this time around! From the second we got off the plane, at every meal Karen ordered something that involved tomato, mozzarella and basil. She was making up for all the lost years. If there was a fig option for something, I tried it. The caprese in the photo was her first try in Venice and it was the worst one (not enough basil). Each try got better and we were shocked that the best tomato-mozzarella-basil combo we discovered was in PRAGUE! WTF, Italy?! Even the worst one was delicious, though, so by worst I still mean good. It's Italy, not Denny's.
I keep thinking that our Nana must be laughing at us from her cloud. She used to always tell us that every sandwich tastes better with a slice of tomato on it and we'd run from the room screaming at the thought. GROSS! And now we are ordering plates of tomatoes by choice.
