I finally got a Nook Color. I know there are people who love the Kindle and hate the Nook and the other way around. What bugged me about the Kindle is it looks like a giant calculator. After years of using an iPhone, it felt like a Fisher-Price toy. The things I like about the Nook Color are the touch screen, everything is in color, it's easy to navigate, has apps, you can put your own photos and music on your Nook, and it has wi-fi so you can access the web. Also, you can jailbreak or root your Nook and make it a tablet easily if you want too (I am going to).
I have been an iPhone user since the iPhone came out. I am used to using the touch screen, seeing things in color, and back-lit. I am used to reading things on an iPhone all day. I am also used to looking at images on the back of a camera. I don't get headaches from reading on my iPhone or looking at images on my camera, inside or outside. I have perfect vision and don't wear glasses. However, my eyes are very sensitive to light and I do wear polarized sunglasses even on cloudy days when I am outside. If I am outside and it is sunny, I cannot see images on my camera or my iPhone if I am wearing my sunglasses. Kindle users often say the Kindle is better because it doesn't get a glare in the sun like a Nook Color does. I don't plan to be reading in the sun much, so that was not a huge issue to me. Nook has an option so you can adjust the background and text colors and brightness. And, the glare is the same as my iPhone. I can read just fine outside! The only problem is if I have my sunglasses on, it's just like with my iPhone. If you get headaches easily from looking at your phone, I can see how the Nook Color might be the less good option for you. I've been reading every night in bed and have not had any problems. In fact, I love it! It's GREAT!!!! In addition to reading in bed, it is great on the treadmill. I can read (or tweet or facebook) while walking without risk of tripping because I am not holding my phone. I just set it on the book ledge and start walking!
The thing I do not like is the magazines. I really wanted to like this option but I HATE IT! Reading magazines in digital format is annoying and so much less fun than reading a real magazine. If anything, it has made me want to renew my subscriptions to the paper versions of magazines even more.
