I haven't had a chance to take photos of our new kitchen yet because I am still doing paint touch ups on the mo-fo cabinet trims and baseboards and all the places where the walls had to be patched. The photo here is a before with the stupid small ceramic sink and all the white tile I HATED (and the killer mold you can't see). Our house is a loft and the kitchen is in the far right corner with an island open to the dining and living area on the first floor. The after photos are not really after but more in-progress. It's so much brighter and more contemporary now. So much less 1987. We stayed with white cupboards because it's a dark corner and I like cheery kitchens. I want to be able to see a spider if it's crawling toward me and my sandwich! I will post better photos as soon as the painting is done, the bar chairs have been recovered, I'm done painting, and art is on the walls. I painted the dark blue ceiling the same calm grey as the walls...it's very soothing and goes much better with the saltillo floors. Hello 2011!
While construction was going on, because I am me, some weird force took over and everything that was plugged into outlets on one side of the house died. My laptop (OMG!), and our vacuum cleaners, two things I have a hard time living without. Since I am still doing the would I rather have this or a night in Italy? dance when it comes to being spendy, I decided to repair my laptop instead of buy a new one. And, I took the advice of friends and bought a cheapo vacuum. Ok, I bought 2 cheapo vacuums. They were really cheap and really good. I couldn't believe how bad our old vacuum was until I got the new cheap ones. That force that blew up everything ended up being a good thing.
If you have a pet that sheds all over your curtains and your carpeted stairs, the Eureka hand-vac is fantastic. It has a setting for floors or carpet. That's a must! It's kind of heavy to hold if you are doing a lot of stairs but it's worth it. I love this. I loved it so much I wanted a stick version to vacuum our one and only carpeted room. But, I thought I'd rather have a night in Italy so decided I'd use the hand-vac on days the GoGirl was really working. Then the other day I was at WalMart and there on display was the stick version of my new favorite vacuum for less than $25. And the parts are all washable! Cat Hair BE GONE and I can still go on my dream vacation.
I can't believe I have vacuumed my stairs twice but have not baked anything in a humongous pan, now that I have a massive sink large enough to hold one. Good thing Karen's birthday is next week, I will have a reason to bake! Ah, my dream sink....
