Many months ago, I was reading our younger brother Tod's blog when I saw a funny comment from writer Jane Devin there. I always visit the blogs of people who comment on Tod's blog because I figure if they like him they will like me and there will never have to be that weird thing of me having to act like I don't swear a lot because he swears a lot so it should just be understood that I am a liberal person who swears a lot by association. That is a silly way of thinking, I know, because he likes sports and I do not, but still, I think it is safe to assume that if he swears a lot, so do I. Anyway, I liked her right away and I commented on her blog. In a strange twist of worlds colliding, it turned out that dear Jane had many things in common with us and it wasn't just Tod. It's so fucking weird when that happens! Weird and great! I never had to be professional, non-swearing Linda around her, I just got to be me ME and she liked me and I liked her and now I am making art with her words.
The words on this journal page were not written by me or by Karen, but were written by Jane in her powerful piece titled In Praise of Elephant Girls. Go read it right now.
We're celebrating ourselves this month. We're not dead and we're happy about it.
