Let's first discuss the news: THE STRIKE IS OVER! My husband will be returning to work in a week or so, and I will be returning to Lean Cuisine and Wheat Thins for dinner. Ok, on to the rest of the news news:
While we were successful in creating The Other Karen for CHA this year, we were not successful in creating Another Linda and I feel bad that I was not able to attend all the events and parties we were invited to! It was just impossible to be in so many places at one time. We appreciate that so many people wanted to include us in their fun events and we wish we could've been at every thing! I hope everyone understands.
Some of the highlights of our trip:
~Seeing our dear friends Tena Sprenger and Carol Wingert (who we don't ever get to see for long enough). Hotel Hell always seems less like hell with them around.
~Seeing our pal Claudine Hellmuth (Poppet, like "puppet" with an o!) and meeting her friend Carmi. We've been reading about Carmi for years and we finally got to meet her. Her jewelry is fantastic!
~Having a really fun dinner with Lain, her Simple pals, and the Funnest Scrapper winner, Tamara! We LOVE Tammy (or does she spell it Tammie or Tami? Maybe we should just call her T to be safe). She should also win the Funniest and most Fashionable Scrapper prize! I think I will stalk her next. It's really amazing that neither Karen nor I accidentally told her that she was the winner at dinner before her surprise party. We deserve a prize for that.
~We got to meet MEREDITH ANNE TAYLOR! She's the little sister I always wanted (I mean, if I wanted a back up sister just in case anything ever happened to Karen). And we got to meet Rachel from TallyScrapper! Both of these girls are so cute it hurts. I wanted to introduce them to each other because I am pretty sure they could be BFF. Note I did not put BFFs because the s goes on friends, not forever- best friends forever.
~Our new friends from Chronicle Books paid us a visit at the convention. So cool!
~Ali Edwards, Donna Downey, and the booth monitor at CK media who helped me stalk Ali. Fun times!
~Maria Grace, Kah-Mei, and everyone at Fontwerks (I love THEM!). They make my all time favorite rubber stamps.
~I stopped in at the Golden booth to test out my be a total bitch skills (more on this topic coming soon, it's a life lesson) only to find that one of my new favorite authors, Nancy Reyner, was standing right there. So, yeah.
~Finally getting to meet Wendy McKeehan, Kitty Foster, Shannon Okey, Alexandra Underhill, Kelly Snelling and Ruth Rae. They've all got new books!!
~Suzi Finer, Suzi Finer, Suzi Finer and all the the Divas from iamadiva.com.
~The hotel SUCKED. We were staying at the Anaheim Hilton where we will never stay again and I am pretty sure we said that last year. We mean it this time. And why don't cell phones work there? Come on, this is LOS ANGELES! WARNING: The hotel parking lot does not take credit cards. Good luck getting out if you don't have a check or cash and there is a line of cars behind you. There's also really spotty internet service that costs almost as much as a Coach bag and takes a really long time to set up. Man oh man. I should've stayed at my new best friend T's house.
~Except for the night we arrived and had dinner at Mimi's and one night when we had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory (best macaroni and cheese EVER!), we had no good food at all. We kept having issues with straws. Our servers would not give them to us.
~There are still a lot of professional crafters who think that art and crafting are only for white, heterosexual people. I still don't get when that became the rule. Where is Oscar Wilde when you need him? Art is for everybody.
~Karen, the nicest person on the planet, told someone she was really excited to meet her and the person walked away. Does anyone want to guess where this person who walked away worked and in what department? :)
We've got video and photos to share soon, too.
