Lots of people emailed to say they couldn't see the Artella Daily Muse interview and would I please post it here. Ok! Here it is (minus the photos):
Daily Muse: How would you describe your art?
Life mixed with paint, glue, images and words.
DM: What is your favorite piece of your own art and why?
My favorite is a piece called Become Buddha from my series Zen and the Art of Mixed
Media. It is the only piece I reget selling. I love the shape of it,
the colors, the mood, everything.
DM: What does your studio look like?
My workspace is a big walk-in closet with an ironing board as my work
surface. I love my ironing board! I prefer to stand while I create so
it is perfect because I can adjust the height as needed. Of course, the
ironing board does double duty as something my friends all tease me
about endlessly. It's also great for when I am traveling...every hotel
has one! It's like a studio everywhere I go! Above my ironing board is
a bulletin board where I pin bits of inspiration...little notes from my
husband, a fun envelope, a favorite fortune, photographs, candy
wrappers.
DM: What art supply can you not live without?
My camera.
DM: Can you recommend your favorite book(s)?
I come from a family of writers~ all my siblings are accomplished
authors so of course I must recommend books by my brothers Lee
and Tod Goldberg in case they see this. Lee writes the MONK and
Diagnosis Murders series of books (in addition to many others) and Tod
has written the highly acclaimed books Living Dead Girl and
Simplify. I do read books not written by family members and a few that
I LOVE are:
The Hotel New Hampshire by John Irving
The Girl in the Flammable Skirt by Aimee Bender
A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley
Mandy by Julie Andrews-Edwards
YOU: The Owners Manual by Michael F. Roizen and Mehmet Oz ( I
learned more about the human body from this book than any class I took
in highschool.)
Robert Rauschenberg: Combines by Robert Rauschenberg and Paul Schimmel
The Places That Scare You by Pema Chodron
DM: Do you have favorite movie(s)?
Who
doesn't LOVE The Sound of Music?! I also loved Dangerous Liaisons,
Slingblade, The Color Purple, Sense and Sensibility, O' Brother Where
Art Thou?, Being John Malkovich, Little Miss Sunshine
DM: Is there music that you love to hear?
I listen to music all day long and have no problem confessing my
love of Neil Diamond. Yes, it's true. I also love Rod Stewart,
Erasure, Sinead O'Connor..anything from the 80's, Brandi Carlile,
Emmylou Harris, the O' Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack and my current
obsession: Snow Patrol. Perhaps I should also say I like Eminem
and The Beastie Boys, too, so you see that part of me is cool. I like
all types of music, really, it just depends on my mood.
DM: Which artist(s) do you love?
Robert Rauschenberg, Dora Carrington, Dao Hai Phong, David Carson, François-Marie Banier, Marissa Bowers
DM: Whom do you most admire and why?
My sister, Karen. I love and admire her because she is really
smart and really silly and she never gets tired of hearing anything I
have to say.
