Just the other day my husband, a magnet for accidents, came home from the gym all excited.
Husband: You'll never believe this! Someone dropped an 80 pound weight on my foot!
Me: Why wouldn't I believe that? Did anyone offer you a drink of water?
Husband: Oddly enough, no.
Every time my husband has been injured in an accident, someone has been right there to offer him a drink of water. When he was run over by the old lady in the big car, as he was in fetal position on the pavement, there were multiple hands handing him bottled water. That time he twisted his ankle playing softball, people rushed to him with water. The time one of the stunts he was rigging went haywire and he nearly fell to his death, a craft service guy offered him a drink of water even faster than the lawyers came running out. I started to notice that in reality, on TV, and in books, whenever someone has bad news or gets hurt, there's always someone there to give them a drink of magic water.
How come nobody gets offered water when something good happens? Does water only help when it is something bad? You're getting married? Great! Here's some water! You survived cancer? Wonderful! Here's some water! You won the lottery? Fan-freaking-tastic, drink some water!
